... Paulo Coelho returns, a shadow from my past

Ah, one of those serendipitous link-chains brought this to my desk (and heart) today:
:: an email from FinerMinds.com catches my eye, talking about 2 grammys won by Jason Mraz (who??);
:: that blog includes a comment that links to - hey, Paulo Coelho, haven't thought about him in a long time (10 yrs.+), wonder what he's up to?
:: I find myself at Paulo's blog site, renew familiarity with an old friend (The Alchemist), and discover a couple of personal gems.

Ironically, a glitch at the top of his blog page now catches my eye:
broken code that's supposed to display a video about a bumblebee - doesn't play but fortunately the glitch exposes the video link, and I have to follow because, well, it's broken. et voila! I have the nudge I was looking for this week! To summarize what Paulo says in the video:
:: According to the laws of aerodynamics and of physics, the bumblebee should not fly. Yet, as Sir Michael Atiyah said : "the bumblebee flies because it doesn’t know about the technicalities of aerodynamics."

Just the thing - working on a new career path that shouldn't work, as I happen to be doing. I want to do it, so I WILL do it. Thanks for reminding me.

BTW, Paulo's own experience of flying contrary to aerodynamics:
his mother told him he could not possibly be a writer. He just sold his 100-millionth book!

And another Coelho headline:
after Warner Bros. bought the movie rights to THE ALCHEMIST in 2003 and then subsequently shelved the project, Harvey Weinstein (Miramax) picked it up and is set to produce it. Laurence Fishburne will direct and star in the movie adaptation of the beloved Coelho classic that has sold over 65 million copies. Release date sometime in 2011.

Cheers Paulo.
